For over six months I have been frustrated with the conversation around the pandemic, and how narrow the narrative (see my post on this) and the vaccination policy is.
I have been afraid to say anything online, or even have conversations about it with friends and family. I want to be able to question things and talk through some complexities and ethical issues. But any hint of a questioning the Narrative usually invokes a quick anger response or the opposite, lack of interest.
A couple of days ago I dipped my toe in the water and replied to a post that a high school friend, who is a doctor, posted encouraging people to get vaccinated, because the data doesn’t lie, and that 75% of the population is vaccinated, the unvaccinated make up over 80% of the hospitalizations. I decided this was a good place to post because it was people I knew from senior year high school, and nobody around Nyack or Ithaca, or family would see it.
My point was that a second interesting point is that, although much lower, there is a significant number of vaccinated people hospitalized, yet I’ve noticed that many people don’t wear masks indoors. So my point was basically that things were not back to normal and everybody had to be safe, and wear masks when necessary. And the second point was that the CDC guidelines were full of mixed messages, yet also clearly showed that practically the entire country was a high transmission zone and the CDC recommends that even fully vaccinated people wear masks indoors.
My basic argument in the post was a less detailed version of my post (click here) on this site on the issue.
My post was blocked by FaceBook. I did get notified the next day when I went to FB on my phone and was doing something so I didn’t get a chance to read their policy, but I didn’t see anything specific about why they blocked my post.
The fact that my post was blocked, in my opinion, shows how far we as a society has overreached the suppression of ideas in the name of public safety. I was not advocating an “anti-Vax” belief, but actually suggesting the CDC be more clear about how we should all adhere to safe practices, including the vaccinated. How on earth is that a dangerous idea that shouldn’t see the light of day?
