You don’t need an alarm clock in the rainforest. You’ll start your day with the howler monkeys, around 4:45am. I used to love starting the early morning listening to them.
Here is what I wrote in my journal:
The most noticeable sound comes from the howler monkeys. I’ve seen them in the trees, sometimes five to each tree. Though I don’t have any binoculars, I can see them hanging out, the kid on an adult piggy-back. I can’t really describe the noise they make, though it is very low, primordial scream. They also make the typical oo-oo sound among others.
The monkeys are near us again. You can see them come down to the river to get water.
